An Introduction to the Cultural Antarctic Program
The Program was outlined in May 2004 by the National Antarctic Direction. Such Program was supported by National Fund of Arts, in Argentina and Guggenheim Foundation, in New York, United States. The Antarctic Cultural Program was initiated with Argentinean artists and was included in the International Cooperation Program in 2006 with artists from Spain and Canada, by deeping polar dialogues, by finding out aesthetic possibilities of contemporary art associated with current matters concerning environment and by diffusing works at national and international levels.
Researches carried out by scientists from National Antarctic Direction (DNA) and Argentine Antarctic Institute (IAA), such as "Appearance of Methane Hydrochloride on glacier ice surfaces” by Dr. Rodolfo del Valle and "Evidence of Climate Warming in the Antarctic peninsula and disappearance of Larsen Glacier Barrier” by Eng. Pedro Skvarca, were the starting points of this Program, which analyzes effects produced by climate changes in the Antarctic peninsula. The Antarctic Cultural Program received others artists who work in the aesthetic research on different disciplines, by combining art and science to produce a reflexive conscience for spreading works related to Antarctica.
During the 2009/11 campaign there were artists from Australia, England, Austria and Russia who developed a visual and sound artistic research project.
